COMPANY PROFILE
Asha Phillip Securities Ltd was first incorporated as Mercantile
Stock Brokers Ltd under the companies Act No 17 of 1982. It
was incorporated in December 1982 as a subsidiary of Mercantile
Credit Ltd. (MCL) and was situated at No 55, Janadhipathi Mawatha,
Colombo 01.
On the 22 of October 1992 the company's name was changed to
Allied Stock Brokers and an addition was made to the head office
with a Branch in Matara. In 1993 the Colombo stock market experienced
rapid growth and with a growing trend of Joint Ventures between
local and overseas Stock Brokers, the company formed an alliance
with Phillip Securities of Singapore. On the 19 of January 1994,
the company was renamed Allied Philip Securities Ltd.
In 1996, the major shareholders of Allied Phillip Securities
Ltd transferred their shares to Mercantile Merchant Bank Ltd.
(MMBL) and on the 17 of November 1998, the name of the company
was changed to MMBL Phillip Securities Ltd.
In 2003, the major Sir Lankan shareholder namely MMBL sold their
stake in the company to Vanguard Equity Holding (pvt) Limited.
At present 58.2% o f the shares are held by Vanguard Equity
Holding (pvt) Limited and the balance 41.8% is still held by
Messrs Phillip Securities Limited in Singapore.
During the course of the year 2003 The company opened operations
in Kandy and together with the branch in Matara the head office
functions from Level 4, "Millennium House", 46/58,
Navam Mawatha, Colombo 02. In 2004 the name was changed to Asha
Phillip Securities Limited.
